1"Write this to the angel of the church in Sardis: These are the words of the one who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know what you do. People say you are alive, but you are dead. 2Wake up! Make strong what is left, which is about to die. For I have found that what you do is not complete in the sight of my God. 3So remember what you have received and heard. Obey it and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief. You will not know the hour when I will come to you. 4But you have a few people in Sardis who have not made their clothes dirty. They will walk with me dressed in white, because they are worthy. 5Like them, the one who wins will be dressed in white. I will never erase his name from the Book of Life. I will say his name before my Father and his angels. 6Whoever has ears should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. 7Write this to the angel of the church in Philadelphia: These are the words of the one who is holy and true. He holds the key of David. What he opens, no one can shut. What he shuts, no one can open. 8I know what you do. Look, I have put an open door in front of you. No one can shut it. I know you have only a little strength. Yet you have kept my word, and you have not denied my name. 9Some belong to the synagogue of Satan. They say they are Jews, but they are liars. I will make them come and bow down at your feet. They will know that I love you. 10You have kept my command to keep going. So I will also keep you from the hour of testing. That hour is about to come on the whole world. It will test those who live on the earth. 11I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. 12I will make the one who wins a pillar in the temple of my God. He will never leave it again. I will write on him the name of my God. I will write the name of the city of my God. It is the new Jerusalem that comes down out of heaven from my God. And I will write on him my new name. 13Whoever has ears should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. 14Write this to the angel of the church in Laodicea: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true Witness. He is the Origin of God's creation. 15I know what you do. You are not cold or hot. I wish you were one or the other! 16But you are lukewarm. You are not hot or cold. So I am about to spit you out of my mouth! 17You say, 'I am rich. I have become wealthy, and I don't need anything.' But you don't see that you are miserable, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked. 18Here is my advice. Buy from me gold that has been made pure by fire. Then you will be rich. Buy white clothes to wear, so the shame of your nakedness will not be seen. And buy cream to put on your eyes, so you can see. 19I correct and discipline those I love. So be serious and repent. 20Look! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in. I will eat with him, and he will eat with me. 21To the one who wins, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne. In the same way, I won and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22Whoever has ears should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches."
