1For the choir leader. A psalm of David.
God, hear my voice as I complain.
Keep my life safe from fear of the enemy. 2Hide me from the secret plans of evil people.
Hide me from the crowd of people who do wrong. 3They sharpen their tongues like swords.
They aim their bitter words like arrows. 4They hide and wait to attack people who have done no wrong.
They shoot all of a sudden, and they are not afraid. 5They hold on tight to their evil plans.
They talk about hiding their traps.
They say, "Who will see them?" 6They plan to do wrong.
They say, "We have made a perfect secret plan!"
For the inner thoughts and heart of a person are a mystery. 7But God will shoot them with arrows.
All of a sudden they will be hurt. 8They will be made to trip.
Their own tongues will be turned against them.
All who see them will shake their heads. 9Then all people will be afraid.
They will tell about the work of God.
They will think about what he has done. 10Let those who are right with God be glad in the LORD.
Let them find safety in him.
Let all whose hearts are honest cheer.
