1For the music leader. To the tune of "The Lily of the Covenant." A miktam of David for teaching. He wrote it when he fought Aram-naharaim and Aram-zobah. Joab came back and killed 12,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
God, you have turned us away.
You have broken us.
You have been angry. Restore us!
2You have shaken the land and torn it open.
Fix its cracks, for it is shaking.
3You have made your people go through hard times.
We stagger from the wine you made us drink.
4You have raised a flag for those who fear you,
so they can run away from the bow. Selah
5Answer us and save us with your right hand,
so the people you love may be rescued.
6God has spoken from his holy place:
"I will win!
I will divide up Shechem.
I will measure out the Valley of Succoth.
7Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine.
Ephraim is my helmet.
Judah is my scepter.
8Moab is my washbasin.
I throw my sandal on Edom.
I shout in victory over Philistia."
9Who will bring me to the city with strong walls?
Who will lead me to Edom?
10God, haven't you turned us away?
God, won't you march out with our armies anymore?
11Help us against the enemy.
For the help of man is worth nothing.
12With God we will fight bravely.
And he will stomp on our enemies.
