1For the music leader. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." A miktam of David. He wrote it when Saul sent men to watch David's house so they could kill him.
My God, save me from my enemies.
Keep me safe from those who rise against me.
2Save me from those who do evil.
Rescue me from men who kill.
3Look, they hide and wait for me.
Fierce men plot against me, LORD.
But it is not because of any wrong or sin of mine.
4I have done nothing wrong,
yet they rush to attack me.
Get up and help me! Look at what is happening!
5LORD God of Hosts, God of Israel,
wake up and punish all the nations.
Show no mercy to the wicked traitors. Selah
6They come back in the evening,
growling like dogs.
They sneak around the city.
7Look at what pours out of their mouths!
Sharp words come from their lips.
They say, "Who can hear us?"
8But you, LORD, laugh at them.
You make fun of all the nations.
9You are my strength. I will watch for you,
because you, God, are my strong fort.
10My God of faithful love will come to meet me.
God will let me look down on my enemies.
11Do not kill them, or my people will forget.
Scatter them by your power.
Bring them down, Lord, our shield.
12Their mouths sin. Their lips speak evil words.
Let them be caught in their pride,
in the curses and lies they speak.
13Burn them up in your anger.
Burn them up until they are gone.
Then all the ends of the earth will know
that God rules over Jacob. Selah
14They come back in the evening,
growling like dogs.
They sneak around the city.
15They hunt for food.
They growl if they don't get enough.
16But I will sing about your strength.
In the morning I will tell of your faithful love.
For you are my strong fort.
You are my safe place in times of trouble.
17You are my strength. I sing praises to you.
For you, God, are my strong fort,
my God of faithful love.
