1For the music leader. To the tune of "Do Not Destroy." A miktam of David.
Rulers, do you really speak what is fair?
Do you judge people in the right way?a
2No! In your hearts you plan what is unfair.
With your hands you hand out violence on the earth.
3The wicked go wrong from the time they are in the womb.
Liars wander off from the day they are born.
4Their poison is like the poison of a snake.
They are like a cobra that stops up its ears.
5It will not listen to the tune of the snake charmer,
no matter how skilled he is with his magic.
6God, break the teeth in their mouths.
LORD, tear out the fangs of the lions.
7May they disappear like water that runs off.
When they pull back the bow,
may their arrows be made dull.
8May they be like a slug that melts in its slime.
May they be like a woman's baby born dead,
who never sees the sun.
9Your pots will not even feel the heat of the burning thorns,
whether green or dry,
before he sweeps them away.
10Those who do right will be glad
when they see the wicked paid back.
They will wash their feet in the blood of the wicked.
11Then people will say,
"There really is a reward for those who do right!
There really is a God who judges the earth!"
