1Then the LORD said to Moses, 2"Tell the Israelites what to do when someone sins without meaning to. He may break any of the LORD's commands and do what they forbid. 3If the anointed priest sins and brings guilt on the people, he must bring to the LORD a young bull with no defects. It is a sin offering for the sin he has done. 4He must bring the bull to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting before the LORD. He must lay his hand on the bull's head and kill it before the LORD. 5Then the anointed priest is to take some of the bull's blood. He is to bring it into the Tent of Meeting. 6The priest is to dip his finger in the blood. He is to sprinkle some of it seven times before the LORD, in front of the veil of the holy place. 7Then the priest must put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of sweet-smelling incense. That altar is before the LORD in the Tent of Meeting. He is to pour out the rest of the bull's blood at the base of the altar for burnt offerings. That altar is at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. 8Then he is to take all the fat from the bull of the sin offering. He is to take the fat that covers the inner parts and all the fat on them. 9He is to take both kidneys with the fat on them near the lower back. He is to take out the long part of the liver with the kidneys. 10He is to do this just as the fat is taken from the ox of the peace offering. Then the priest is to burn them on the altar for burnt offerings. 11But the bull's hide and all its meat, its head and legs, and its inner parts and dung— 12all the rest of the bull—he must take outside the camp. He must take it to a place that is clean by the law, where the ashes are poured out. There he must burn it on a wood fire on the ash pile. 13Now if the whole community of Israel goes astray without meaning to, and the assembly does not notice it, they will break one of the LORD's commands. They will become guilty by doing what is forbidden. 14When they find out about the sin they have done, the assembly must bring a young bull as a sin offering. They must offer it in front of the Tent of Meeting. 15The elders of the community are to lay their hands on the bull's head before the LORD. Then the bull is to be killed before the LORD. 16Then the anointed priest is to bring some of the bull's blood into the Tent of Meeting. 17He is to dip his finger in the blood. He is to sprinkle it seven times before the LORD in front of the veil. 18He is also to put some of the blood on the horns of the altar that is before the LORD in the Tent of Meeting. He must pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar for burnt offerings. That altar is at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. 19He is to take all the fat from it and burn it on the altar. 20He is to offer this bull just as he did the bull for the sin offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for them, and they will be forgiven. 21Then he is to take the bull outside the camp and burn it, just as he burned the first bull. It is the sin offering for the assembly. 22When a leader sins without meaning to, and does what any command of the LORD his God forbids, he is guilty. 23When he finds out about the sin he has done, he must bring a male goat with no defects as his offering. 24He is to lay his hand on the goat's head. He is to kill it where the burnt offering is killed before the LORD. It is a sin offering. 25Then the priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger. He is to put it on the horns of the altar for burnt offerings. He is to pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. 26He must burn all its fat on the altar, like the fat of the peace offerings. In this way the priest will make atonement for that man's sin, and he will be forgiven. 27And if one of the common people sins without meaning to, and does what any of the LORD's commands forbid, he is guilty. 28When he finds out about the sin he has done, he must bring a female goat with no defects. It is his offering for that sin. 29He is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering. He is to kill it at the place of the burnt offering. 30Then the priest is to take some of its blood with his finger. He is to put it on the horns of the altar for burnt offerings. He is to pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. 31Then he is to take out all the fat, just as it is taken from the peace offering. The priest is to burn it on the altar as a smell that pleases the LORD. In this way the priest will make atonement for him, and he will be forgiven. 32But if he brings a lamb as a sin offering, he must bring a female with no defects. 33He is to lay his hand on the head of the sin offering. He is to kill it as a sin offering where the burnt offering is killed. 34Then the priest is to take some of the blood of the sin offering with his finger. He is to put it on the horns of the altar for burnt offerings. He is to pour out the rest of its blood at the base of the altar. 35He is to take out all the fat, just as the fat of the lamb is taken from the peace offerings. He is to burn it on the altar with the food offerings to the LORD. In this way the priest will make atonement for him for the sin he has done, and he will be forgiven.
