1"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God. Believe in me too. 2There are many rooms in my Father's house. If it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back. I will take you to be with me. Then you also will be where I am. 4You know the way to the place where I am going." 5Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going. So how can we know the way?" 6Jesus answered, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7If you had really known me, you would know my Father too. From now on, you do know him. And you have seen him." 8Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father. That will be enough for us." 9Jesus answered, "Philip, I have been with you all this time. Don't you know me yet? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? 10Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not my own. It is the Father living in me. He is doing his works. 11Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the works themselves. 12I tell you the truth. Anyone who believes in me will also do the works I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it. 15If you love me, you will obey my commands. 16And I will ask the Father. He will give you another Helper to be with you forever.a 17He is the Spirit of truth. The world can't accept him, because it doesn't see him or know him. But you do know him. He lives with you, and he will be in you. 18I will not leave you as orphans. I will come to you. 19In a little while the world won't see me anymore. But you will see me. Because I live, you will live too. 20On that day you will know that I am in my Father. You will know that you are in me, and I am in you. 21Whoever has my commands and obeys them is the one who loves me. My Father will love the one who loves me. I will love him too, and I will show myself to him." 22Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, why will you show yourself to us and not to the world?" 23Jesus answered, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love him. We will come to him and make our home with him. 24Anyone who does not love me does not obey my teaching. The words you hear are not my own. They belong to the Father who sent me. 25I have told you all this while I am still with you. 26But the Father will send the Helper, the Holy Spirit, in my name. He will teach you all things. He will remind you of everything I have told you. 27I leave peace with you. I give you my peace. I don't give it to you the way the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled. Do not be afraid. 28You heard me say, 'I am going away, and I am coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father. For the Father is greater than I am. 29I have told you now, before it happens. Then when it does happen, you will believe. 30I won't talk with you much longer. The prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me. 31But I do exactly what the Father has commanded me. I do it so the world will know that I love the Father. Get up! Let's leave this place.
