IsaiahChapter 64

1Oh, if only you would tear open the heavens and come down!
Then the mountains would shake before you,
2as when fire sets dry sticks burning
and makes water boil.
Then you would make your name known to your enemies,
and the nations would tremble before you!
3When you did amazing things we did not expect,
you came down,
and the mountains shook before you.
4From ancient times no one has heard,
no ear has noticed,
and no eye has seen any God but you,
who acts for those who wait for him.
5You welcome those who gladly do what is right,
who remember your ways.
Yes, you were angry, for we sinned.
How can we be saved if we stay in our sins?
6All of us have become like something unclean.
All the right things we do are like filthy rags.
We all dry up like a leaf.
Our sins sweep us away like the wind.
7No one calls on your name
or works hard to hold on to you.
For you have hidden your face from us.
You have handed us over to the power of our sins.
8But now, LORD, you are our Father.
We are the clay, and you are the potter.
We are all the work of your hand.
9Do not be angry beyond measure, LORD.
Do not remember our sin forever.
Oh, please look at us.
We are all your people!
10Your holy cities have become a wilderness.
Zion has become a wasteland.
Jerusalem lies empty and ruined.
11Our holy and beautiful temple,
where our fathers praised you,
has been burned with fire.
All that was dear to us lies in ruins.
12After all this, LORD, will you still hold yourself back?
Will you stay silent
and make us suffer beyond measure?
