1"I made myself known to those who did not ask for me.
I was found by those who did not look for me.
To a nation that did not call on my name,
I said, 'Here I am! Here I am!'
2All day long I have held out my hands
to a stubborn people.
They walk in the wrong path
and follow their own ideas.
3They are a people who keep making me angry right to my face.
They offer sacrifices in gardens
and burn incense on altars of brick.
4They sit among the graves
and spend nights in secret places.
They eat the meat of pigs,
and their bowls hold broth that is unclean.
5They say, 'Stay away! Do not come near me,
for I am holier than you!'
People like that are smoke in my nose,
a fire that burns all day long.
6Look, it is written down before me:
I will not keep silent, but I will pay them back.
I will pay it back right into their laps,
7both for your sins and for the sins of your fathers," says the LORD.
"They burned incense on the mountains
and insulted me on the hills.
So I will measure out into their laps
full payment for what they did before."
8This is what the LORD says:
"When new wine is found in a bunch of grapes,
people say, 'Do not destroy it, for there is a blessing in it.'
In the same way, I will act for the sake of my servants.
I will not destroy them all.
9I will bring out descendants from Jacob,
and from Judah, people who will inherit.
My chosen ones will own my mountains,
and my servants will live there.
10Sharon will become a pasture for flocks.
The Valley of Achor will be a resting place for herds.
They will be for my people who seek me.
11But as for you who turn away from the LORD,
who forget my holy mountain,
who set a table for Fortune
and fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny,a
12I will choose the sword for you.
You will all bow down to be slaughtered.
For I called, but you did not answer.
I spoke, but you did not listen.
You did evil in my sight
and chose what I do not delight in."
13So this is what the Lord GOD says:
"My servants will eat,
but you will go hungry.
My servants will drink,
but you will go thirsty.
My servants will be glad,
but you will be put to shame.
14My servants will shout for joy
with glad hearts.
But you will cry out with heavy hearts
and wail with broken spirits.
15Your name will be left behind
as a curse for my chosen ones to use.
The Lord GOD will put you to death.
But he will give his servants another name.
16Whoever asks for a blessing in the land
will do it by the God of truth.
Whoever makes an oath in the land
will swear by the God of truth.
For the troubles of the past will be forgotten
and hidden from my eyes.
17For look, I will create new heavens and a new earth.
The old things will not be remembered.
They will not even come to mind.
18But be glad and rejoice forever
in what I create.
For I will create Jerusalem to be a joy,
and her people to be a delight.
19I will rejoice over Jerusalem
and take delight in my people.
The sound of weeping and crying
will not be heard in her anymore.
20No more will a baby live only a few days.
No more will an old man fail to live out his years.
For one who dies at a hundred will still be called young.
One who does not reach a hundred will be thought cursed.
21They will build houses and live in them.
They will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
22They will no longer build houses for others to live in.
They will not plant for others to eat.
For as long as a tree lives,
so long will my people live.
My chosen ones will fully enjoy
the work of their hands.
23They will not work for nothing.
They will not have children who are doomed to disaster.
For they will be a people blessed by the LORD,
they and their descendants with them.
24Even before they call, I will answer.
While they are still speaking, I will hear.
25The wolf and the lamb will eat together.
The lion will eat straw like the ox.
But dust will be the serpent's food.
They will not hurt or destroy
anywhere on my holy mountain," says the LORD.
