IsaiahChapter 63

1Who is this coming from Edom,
from Bozrah, with clothes stained deep red?
Who is this dressed in splendor,
marching in his great strength?
"It is I. I announce that I will set things right.
I am mighty to save."
2Why are your clothes red?
Why do your robes look like those of someone
who stomps grapes in a winepress?
3"I have stomped the winepress alone.
No one from the nations was with me.
I stomped on them in my anger.
I trampled them in my fury.
Their blood splashed on my robes,
and all my clothes were stained.
4For the day of vengeance was in my heart.
The year for me to redeem had come.
5I looked, but there was no one to help.
I was shocked that no one gave support.
So my own arm won the victory for me.
My own anger held me up.
6I trampled the nations in my anger.
In my fury I made them drunk.
I poured out their blood on the ground."
7I will tell of the LORD's faithful love.
I will tell of the deeds that make him worthy of praise.
I will tell of all the LORD has done for us.
He has done many good things for the house of Israel.
He did them because of his great mercy and faithful love.
8For he said, "They are surely my people.
They are children who will not be false to me."
So he became their Savior.
9In all their trouble, he was troubled too.
The Angel of his Presence saved them.
In his love and mercy he redeemed them.
He lifted them up and carried them
all through the days of long ago.
10But they rebelled
and grieved his Holy Spirit.
So he turned and became their enemy.
He himself fought against them.
11Then his people remembered the days of long ago,
the days of Moses.
Where is the one who brought them through the sea
with the shepherds of his flock?
Where is the one who put his Holy Spirit among them,
12who sent his glorious arm
to lead them by Moses' right hand,
who split the waters in front of them
to win for himself a name that lasts forever,
13who led them through the deep waters
like a horse in the wilderness,
so that they did not stumble?
14Like cattle going down into the valley,
they were given rest by the Spirit of the LORD.
This is how you led your people
to make a glorious name for yourself.
15Look down from heaven and see,
from your holy and glorious home.
Where are your zeal and your power?
Your tender love and mercy for me are held back.
16But you are our Father,
though Abraham does not know us
and Israel does not claim us.
You, LORD, are our Father.
Our Redeemer from Long Ago is your name.
17LORD, why do you make us wander from your ways?
Why do you harden our hearts so we do not fear you?
Come back, for the sake of your servants,
the tribes that belong to you.
18For a short time your people owned your holy place.
But now our enemies have trampled your temple.
19We have become like people you never ruled,
like those who were never called by your name.
