1The god Bel bends low.
The god Nebo bows down.
Their idols are loaded onto animals and cattle.
The images you carry around are heavy.
They are a load for tired animals. 2These gods bow low.
They bend down together.
They cannot save their heavy load.
They themselves are carried away as captives. 3"Listen to me, family of Jacob,
all who are left of the family of Israel.
I have cared for you from the womb.
I have carried you since your birth. 4Even when you are old, I will be the same.
I will hold you up when your hair turns gray.
I made you, and I will carry you.
I will hold you up and rescue you. 5Who will you say I am like?
Who will you say is my equal?
Who will you compare me to,
as if we were alike? 6Some people pour gold out of their bags.
They weigh out silver on scales.
They pay a goldsmith to make it into a god.
Then they bow down and worship it. 7They lift it onto their shoulders and carry it.
They set it in its place, and there it stands.
It does not move from that spot.
They cry out to it, but it does not answer.
It does not save anyone from his troubles. 8Remember this and be brave.
Think hard about it, you who break my laws! 9Remember what happened long ago.
For I am God, and there is no other.
I am God, and there is no one like me. 10I tell the end from the beginning.
From long ago I tell what is still to come.
I say, 'My plan will stand.
I will do everything I want to do.' 11I call a bird of prey from the east.
I call a man from a faraway land to do what I plan.
I have spoken, and I will surely make it happen.
I have planned it, and I will surely do it. 12Listen to me, you stubborn people,
you who are far from what is right. 13I am bringing my righteousness near.
It is not far away.
My saving help will not be late.
I will save Zion.
I will give Israel my beauty and glory."
