1This is what the LORD says to Cyrus, his anointed one.
I have taken hold of his right hand.
I will make nations bow down before him.
I will take away the weapons of kings.
I will open doors before him,
so that the city gates will not be shut.
2"I will go ahead of you.
I will make the mountains flat.
I will break down the bronze gates.
I will cut through the iron bars.
3I will give you treasures hidden in the dark.
I will give you riches stored in secret places.
Then you will know that I am the LORD,
the God of Israel, who calls you by name.
4I call you by name
for the sake of Jacob my servant
and Israel my chosen one.
I have given you a title of honor,
though you have not known me.
5I am the LORD, and there is no other.
There is no God but me.
I will make you ready for battle,
though you have not known me.
6Then all people will know,
from where the sun rises to where it sets,
that there is no one but me.
I am the LORD, and there is no other.
7I make the light and create the darkness.
I bring good times and create disaster.
I, the LORD, do all these things.
8Drip down from above, you heavens.
Let the skies pour down what is right.
Let the earth open up so that saving help may grow.
Let what is right spring up with it.
I, the LORD, have created it.
9How terrible it will be for the one who argues with his Maker!
He is only one clay pot among many.
Does the clay ask the potter, 'What are you making?'
Does your work say, 'He has no hands'?
10How terrible it will be for the one who says to his father,
'What kind of child have you fathered?'
Or to his mother,
'What kind of child have you given birth to?'"
11This is what the LORD says,
the Holy One of Israel, its Maker:
"Do you question me about things to come for my sons?
Do you tell me what to do with the work of my hands?
12I am the one who made the earth.
I created people to live on it.
My own hands stretched out the skies.
I gave orders to all the stars.
13I will stir up Cyrus to do what is right.
I will make all his paths straight.
He will rebuild my city.
He will set my captured people free.
But he will not do it for money or a reward,"
says the LORD of Hosts.
14This is what the LORD says:
"The goods of Egypt and the trade of Cush
will come over to you and be yours.
The Sabeans, tall men, will come too.
They will walk slowly behind you.
They will come over in chains and bow down to you.
They will admit to you,
'God really is with you, and there is no other.
There is no other God.'"
15Truly you are a God who hides himself,
God of Israel, the Savior.
16All who make idols will be put to shame and brought low.
They will all go away together in shame.
17But the LORD will save Israel,
and that rescue will last forever.
You will never be put to shame or brought low,
not for all time to come.
18For this is what the LORD says.
He created the skies. He is God.
He formed the earth and made it.
He set it firmly in place.
He did not create it to be empty.
He formed it for people to live on.
"I am the LORD, and there is no other.
19I have not spoken in secret,
from some place in a dark land.
I did not say to Jacob's children,
'Look for me in an empty wasteland.'
I, the LORD, speak the truth.
I say what is right.
20Come, gather together, and come near,
you who have escaped from the nations.
People who carry around wooden idols know nothing.
They pray to a god that cannot save.
21Speak up and tell your case.
Yes, let them talk it over together.
Who told about this long ago?
Who said it from ancient times?
Wasn't it I, the LORD?
There is no other God but me.
I am a righteous God and a Savior.
There is no one but me.
22Turn to me and be saved,
all you ends of the earth.
For I am God, and there is no other.
23I have made a promise by myself.
Truth has gone out from my mouth.
It is a word that will not be taken back:
Every knee will bow before me.
Every tongue will promise to be loyal to me.
24They will surely say of me,
'Only in the LORD are righteousness and strength.'"
All who are angry at him will come to him
and be put to shame.
25In the LORD all the children of Israel
will be made right with God, and they will be glad.
