1Remind the believers to submit to rulers and those in charge. Remind them to obey and to be ready to do every good work. 2Remind them not to speak evil of anyone. They should be peaceful and gentle. They should be truly kind to everyone. 3At one time we too were foolish and did not obey. We were led astray. We were slaves to all kinds of desires and pleasures. We lived in hate and jealousy. People hated us, and we hated each other. 4But then the kindness of God our Savior appeared. His love for all people appeared. 5He saved us. It was not because of the right things we had done. It was because of his mercy. He saved us by washing us so we were born again. He saved us by making us new through the Holy Spirit. 6God poured out this Spirit on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior. 7He did it so that we would be made right with God by his grace. Then we would become heirs, with the hope of eternal life. 8This saying is true. I want you to stress these things. Then those who have believed God will be careful to give themselves to doing good. These things are excellent and helpful for everyone. 9But stay away from foolish arguments and lists of ancestors. Stay away from fights and quarrels about the law. These things are useless and worth nothing. 10Warn a person who causes divisions one time, and then a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him. 11You know that such a person is twisted and sinful. He has judged himself guilty. 12I will send Artemas or Tychicus to you. As soon as I do, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis. I have decided to spend the winter there. 13Do all you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way. Make sure they have everything they need. 14Our people must also learn to give themselves to doing good. Then they can meet the urgent needs of others. And their lives will not be without fruit. 15Everyone with me says hello to you. Say hello to those who love us in the faith. May grace be with all of you.
