1A prayer of Moses, the man of God.
Lord, you have been our home
for all generations. 2Before the mountains were born,
before you made the earth and the world,
you are God, from forever in the past to forever in the future. 3You turn people back to dust.
You say, "Go back, you children of men." 4For to you, a thousand years are like a day that has just gone by.
They are like a few hours of the night.a 5You sweep people away in their sleep.
They are like new grass in the morning. 6In the morning it comes up fresh.
But by evening it fades and dries up. 7For your anger burns us up.
Your fury fills us with fear. 8You have put our sins in front of you.
Our secret sins are in the light of your presence. 9For all our days pass away under your anger.
We end our years with a sigh. 10We live for seventy years,
or eighty if we are strong.
But even the best of them are hard work and sorrow.
They go by quickly, and we fly away. 11Who knows how strong your anger is?
Your anger is as great as the fear you deserve. 12So teach us to count our days,
so we may gain a wise heart. 13Come back, LORD! How long will it be?
Have pity on your servants. 14Fill us each morning with your faithful love.
Then we will sing for joy and be glad all our days. 15Make us glad for as many days as you have made us suffer.
Make us glad for as many years as we have seen trouble. 16Let your servants see your work.
Let their children see your glory. 17May the kindness of the Lord our God rest on us.
Make the work of our hands last.
Yes, make the work of our hands last!
