1For the choir leader. To the tune of "The Lilies of the Covenant." A psalm of Asaph.
Hear us, Shepherd of Israel.
You lead Joseph like a flock.
You sit on your throne between the cherubim.
Shine out 2before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh.
Wake up your mighty power.
Come and save us. 3God, bring us back.
Make your face shine on us,
so that we may be saved. 4LORD God of Hosts,
how long will your anger smoke
against the prayers of your people? 5You have fed them tears for bread.
You have made them drink bowls full of tears. 6You make us something our neighbors fight over.
Our enemies make fun of us. 7God of Hosts, bring us back.
Make your face shine on us,
so that we may be saved. 8You dug up a vine from Egypt.
You drove out the nations and planted it. 9You cleared the ground for it.
It put down roots and filled the land. 10Its shade covered the mountains.
Its branches covered the mighty cedars. 11It sent out its branches to the Sea.
It sent its shoots toward the River.a 12Why have you broken down its walls?
Now everyone who walks by picks its fruit. 13The wild boar from the forest tears it up.
The animals of the field feed on it. 14God of Hosts, please come back!
Look down from heaven and see!
Take care of this vine, 15the root your right hand has planted,
the son you have raised up for yourself. 16Your vine has been cut down and burned.
They perish at the rebuke of your face. 17Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand.
Let it rest on the son of man you have raised up for yourself. 18Then we will not turn away from you.
Give us new life, and we will call on your name. 19LORD God of Hosts, bring us back.
Make your face shine on us,
so that we may be saved.
