1For the choir leader. According to Jeduthun. A psalm of Asaph.
I cried out to God.
I cried out loud for God to hear me.
2When I was in trouble, I looked for the Lord.
All night long I held out my hands without getting tired.
My soul would not be comforted.
3I remembered you, God, and I groaned.
I thought about it, and my spirit grew weak. Selah
4You have kept my eyes from closing.
I am too upset to speak.
5I thought about the old days,
the years long ago.
6At night I remembered my song.
I thought about it in my heart.
My spirit wondered:
7"Will the Lord turn us away forever?
Will he never be kind to us again?
8Is his faithful love gone forever?
Has his promise failed for all time?
9Has God forgotten to be kind?
Has his anger shut off his mercy?" Selah
10Then I said, "This is what hurts me:
the right hand of the Most High has changed."
11I will remember what the LORD has done.
Yes, I will remember your wonders from long ago.
12I will think about all you have done.
I will think about your mighty acts.
13God, your way is holy.
What god is as great as our God?
14You are the God who does wonders.
You show your strength among the peoples.
15With your power you redeemed your people,
the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah
16The waters saw you, God.
The waters saw you and swirled around.
Even the deep waters shook.
17The clouds poured down water.
The skies boomed with thunder.
Your arrows flashed back and forth.
18Your thunder boomed in the whirlwind.
The lightning lit up the world.
The earth trembled and shook.
19Your path led through the sea.
Your way went through the mighty waters.
But no one could find your footprints.
20You led your people like a flock
by the hands of Moses and Aaron.
