1For the music leader. A maskil of the sons of Korah.
A deer pants for streams of water.
In the same way, my soul longs for you, God.a
2My soul is thirsty for God, the living God.
When can I go and stand before God?
3My tears have been my food day and night.
All day long people ask me, "Where is your God?"
4I remember these things as I pour out my soul.
I walked with the crowd.
I led the happy parade to the house of God.
We shouted for joy and praised him.
5Why are you so sad, my soul?
Why are you so upset inside me?
Put your hope in God.
I will still praise him, because he is with me and saves me.
6My God, my soul is so sad inside me.
So I remember you from the land of the Jordan,
from the peaks of Hermon, even from Mount Mizar.
7Deep waters call to deep waters
in the roar of your waterfalls.
All your breaking waves have rolled over me.
8By day the LORD sends out his faithful love.
At night his song is with me.
It is a prayer to the God of my life.
9I say to God, my Rock,
"Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I walk around so sad?
Why must the enemy crush me?"
10My enemies make fun of me.
It feels like my bones are being crushed.
All day long they say to me, "Where is your God?"
11Why are you so sad, my soul?
Why are you so upset inside me?
Put your hope in God.
I will still praise him, my Savior and my God.
