1For the music leader. A psalm of David.
Blessed is the one who cares for the poor.
The LORD will rescue him in times of trouble. 2The LORD will guard him and keep him alive.
He will bless him in the land.
He will not hand him over to what his enemies want. 3The LORD will hold him up when he lies sick in bed.
He will make him well again from his sickbed. 4I said, "LORD, be kind to me.
Heal me, for I have sinned against you." 5My enemies say cruel things about me:
"When will he die and be forgotten?" 6When someone comes to see me, he tells lies.
He collects bad stories in his heart.
Then he goes out and spreads them. 7All who hate me whisper about me.
They think the worst will happen to me: 8"A terrible sickness has been poured into him.
He will never get up from where he lies!" 9Even my close friend turned against me.
I trusted him. He ate my bread.
But he has lifted up his heel against me. 10But you, LORD, be kind to me.
Raise me up, so I can pay them back. 11This is how I know you are pleased with me:
my enemy does not win over me. 12You hold me up because I am honest.
You set me in your presence forever. 13Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel,
from forever to forever.
Amen and Amen.
