1For the music leader. A psalm of David.
I waited with patience for the LORD.
He turned to me and heard my cry. 2He lifted me up out of the pit of despair,
out of the muddy clay.
He set my feet on a rock.
He made my steps firm. 3He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see it and fear.
They will put their trust in the LORD. 4Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD.
He has not turned to the proud.
He has not turned to those who go after lies. 5LORD my God, you have done many wonders.
You have many plans for us.
No one can compare to you!
If I tried to tell about them all,
there would be too many to count. 6You did not want sacrifices and offerings.
But you have opened my ears.
You did not ask for burnt offerings and sin offerings. 7Then I said, "Here I am. I have come.
It is written about me in the scroll: 8I love to do what you want, my God.
Your law is in my heart." 9I tell about what is right in the great gathering.
Look, I do not keep my lips shut.
LORD, you know this. 10I have not hidden your righteousness in my heart.
I have told about your faithfulness and how you save.
I have not kept your faithful love and truth
hidden from the great gathering. 11LORD, do not hold back your mercy from me.
Your faithful love and truth will always keep me safe. 12For troubles too many to count are all around me.
My sins have caught up with me, so I can't see.
They are more than the hairs on my head.
My heart has given up inside me. 13LORD, please be willing to save me.
LORD, hurry to help me. 14May those who want to kill me be put to shame and confused.
May those who want to hurt me be turned back and disgraced. 15Some say to me, "Aha, aha!"
May they be shocked by their own shame. 16May all who look for you be full of joy and glad in you.
May those who love how you save always say,
"The LORD is great!" 17But I am poor and needy.
May the Lord think about me.
You are my helper and the one who rescues me.
My God, do not wait.
