1A prayer of David.
LORD, hear my honest plea.
Listen to my cry.
Hear my prayer.
It comes from lips that do not lie.
2May the proof that I am in the right come from you.
May your eyes see what is right.
3You have tested my heart.
You have come to me in the night.
You have tested me and found no evil.
I have decided that my mouth will not sin.
4People do all kinds of things.
But because of what you said,
I have kept away from the ways of violent people.
5My steps have stayed on your paths.
My feet have not slipped.
6I call to you, O God, for you will answer me.
Turn your ear to me. Hear what I say.
7Show the wonders of your faithful love.
With your right hand you save
those who run to you to be safe from their enemies.
8Guard me as the apple of your eye.
Hide me in the shadow of your wings
9from the wicked who attack me,
from my deadly enemies who surround me.
10Their hearts are hard and closed.
Their mouths speak proud words.
11They have tracked us down, and now they surround us.
They watch for a chance to throw us to the ground.
12They are like a lion hungry for its prey.
They are like a young lion hiding and waiting to attack.
13Get up, LORD! Face them!
Make them fall to their knees.
With your sword, rescue me from the wicked.
14LORD, by your hand, save me from such men.
They are people of this world.
All they get is in this life.
But fill the stomachs of those you treasure.
Let their sons have plenty too.
Then they will leave what is left to their children.
15As for me, I will see your face in righteousness.
When I wake up, I will be satisfied to be with you.
