1For the choir leader. By the Sheminith. A psalm of David.
Help, LORD, for the godly are gone!
The faithful have disappeared from among people.
2They lie to each other.
They use sweet talk to fool people.
They say one thing but mean another.
3May the LORD cut off all lips that use sweet talk to fool people.
May he cut off every tongue that brags.
4They say, "Our tongues will make us win.
Our lips belong to us. Who can be our master?"
5The LORD says, "The poor are treated badly.
The needy groan.
So now I will get up.
I will keep safe the one who longs for help."
6The words of the LORD are perfect.
They are like silver made pure in a furnace.
They are like gold made pure seven times.
7LORD, you will keep us safe.
You will guard us from these people forever.
8The wicked walk around freely.
And people praise what is evil.
