1A prayer of someone who is suffering, when he is weak and pours out his sorrow to the LORD.
LORD, hear my prayer.
Let my cry for help come to you. 2Don't hide your face from me when I'm in trouble.
Bend down and listen to me.
Answer me quickly when I call. 3For my days disappear like smoke.
My bones burn like hot coals. 4My heart is hurting.
It is dried up like grass.
I even forget to eat my bread. 5I groan so loud and so long
that I am nothing but skin and bones. 6I am like an owl in the desert,
like an owl among the ruins. 7I lie awake.
I am like a lonely bird on a rooftop. 8All day long my enemies mock me.
They make fun of me and use my name as a curse. 9For I have eaten ashes as if they were bread.
I have mixed my drink with tears 10because of your anger and fury.
You have picked me up and thrown me aside. 11My days are like the long shadows of evening.
I dry up like grass. 12But you, LORD, sit on your throne forever.
Your fame lasts for all generations. 13You will rise up and have pity on Zion,
for it is time to show her kindness.
The set time has come. 14For your servants love her stones.
They feel sorry for her dust. 15Then the nations will fear the name of the LORD.
All the kings of the earth will fear your glory. 16For the LORD will build Zion again.
He has shown up in his glory. 17He will turn and listen to the prayer of people in need.
He will not turn away from their prayer. 18Let this be written down for the people to come.
Then people not yet born will praise the LORD. 19For the LORD looked down from his holy place on high.
He looked down from heaven to earth 20to hear the groans of prisoners
and to set free those who were sentenced to die. 21Then they will tell about the name of the LORD in Zion.
They will praise him in Jerusalem 22when peoples and kingdoms gather
to serve the LORD. 23He has broken my strength along the way.
He has cut my life short. 24I say, "My God, don't take me away
in the middle of my life!
Your years go on through all generations. 25In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth.
The heavens are the work of your hands. 26They will perish, but you will stay.
They will all wear out like old clothes.
You will change them like clothes,
and they will pass away. 27But you stay the same.
Your years will never end. 28The children of your servants will live safely.
Their children will be made secure before you."
