1LORD, why do you stand so far away?
Why do you hide in times of trouble? 2The wicked are proud, and they chase the needy.
Let them be caught in the evil plans they make. 3For the wicked man brags about what his heart wants.
He blesses greedy people and insults the LORD. 4The wicked man is proud, so he does not look for God.
In all his plans, there is no God. 5Things always go well for him.
Your judgments are high above him, far out of his sight.
He sneers at all his enemies. 6He says to himself, "Nothing will shake me.
I will never have trouble, year after year." 7His mouth is full of curses, lies, and violence.
Trouble and evil are under his tongue. 8He hides and waits near the villages.
From his hiding place he kills people who did no wrong.
His eyes secretly watch for those who are helpless. 9He waits in hiding like a lion in the bushes.
He waits to grab the poor.
He catches the weak in his net. 10They are crushed and beaten down.
The helpless fall under his strength. 11He says to himself, "God has forgotten.
He hides his face and never sees." 12Get up, LORD! Lift up your hand, O God!
Do not forget the helpless. 13Why does the wicked man turn his back on God?
He says to himself, "You will never make me answer for what I do." 14But you have seen the trouble and the sadness.
You watch so you can pay it back with your hand.
The one who is hurt trusts himself to you.
You help children who have no father. 15Break the arm of the wicked and evil man.
Make him answer for his evil
until there is none of it left to find. 16The LORD is King forever and ever.
The nations perish from his land. 17LORD, you have heard what the humble want.
You will make their hearts strong.
You will turn your ear to listen, 18to stand up for children with no father and for those treated badly.
Then people of the earth will not scare others anymore.
