1My son, don't forget my teaching.
Let your heart keep my commands. 2For they will give you a long life.
They will add years and peace to your life. 3Never let faithful love and faithfulness leave you.
Tie them around your neck.
Write them on the tablet of your heart. 4Then you will win favor and a good name
with God and with people. 5Trust in the LORD with all your heart.
Don't depend on your own understanding. 6In all your ways, remember him.
And he will make your paths straight. 7Don't think you are wise.
Fear the LORD and turn away from evil. 8This will bring healing to your body.
It will make your bones strong and fresh. 9Honor the LORD with your wealth.
Honor him with the firstfruits of all your crops. 10Then your barns will be filled to the top.
Your vats will overflow with new wine. 11My son, don't reject the LORD's discipline.
Don't hate it when he corrects you. 12For the LORD disciplines the one he loves.
A father does the same for the son he delights in. 13Blessed is the person who finds wisdom.
Blessed is the one who gains understanding. 14For wisdom is worth more than silver.
What she gives is better than fine gold. 15She is worth more than rubies.
Nothing you want can compare with her. 16Long life is in her right hand.
In her left hand are riches and honor. 17All her ways are pleasant.
All her paths are peaceful. 18She is a tree of life to those who hug her close.
Those who hold on to her are blessed. 19The LORD made the earth by wisdom.
He set the heavens in place by understanding. 20By his knowledge the deep waters burst open.
By it the clouds dripped with dew. 21My son, don't lose sight of this.
Hold on to good sense and wise thinking. 22They will be life for your soul.
They will be like jewels around your neck. 23Then you will walk safely on your way.
Your foot will not trip. 24When you lie down, you won't be afraid.
When you rest, your sleep will be sweet. 25Don't be afraid of sudden danger.
Don't fear the ruin that comes on wicked people. 26For the LORD will be the one you trust.
He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap. 27Don't hold back good from those who should have it
when you have the power to help. 28Don't tell your neighbor, "Come back tomorrow, and I'll give it to you."
Don't say this when you already have it. 29Don't plan to hurt your neighbor,
for he lives next to you and trusts you. 30Don't accuse someone for no reason
when he has done you no harm. 31Don't be jealous of a violent man.
Don't choose any of his ways. 32For the LORD hates people who are twisted.
But he is a close friend to honest people. 33The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked.
But he blesses the home of those who do right. 34He mocks those who mock.
But he gives grace to the humble. 35Wise people will receive honor.
But fools will be put to shame.
