1My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands inside you, 2if you turn your ear toward wisdom
and set your heart on understanding, 3if you truly cry out for insight
and raise your voice for understanding, 4if you look for it like silver
and search for it like hidden treasure, 5Then you will understand the fear of the LORD.
You will find the knowledge of God. 6For the LORD gives wisdom.
Knowledge and understanding come from his mouth. 7He stores up good wisdom for honest people.
He is a shield for those who live with integrity. 8He guards the paths of justice.
He protects the way of God's people. 9Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair.
You will understand every good path. 10For wisdom will come into your heart.
Knowledge will bring joy to your soul. 11Careful thinking will watch over you.
Understanding will guard you. 12They will save you from the way of evil,
from the man who says twisted things, 13from those who leave the straight paths
to walk in the ways of darkness, 14from those who enjoy doing evil
and are glad about twisted, evil things, 15whose paths are crooked
and whose ways are full of tricks. 16It will save you from the forbidden woman,
from the stranger with tempting words. 17She has left the husband she married when she was young.
She has forgotten the covenant of her God. 18For her house sinks down to death.
Her paths lead to the spirits of the dead. 19No one who goes to her comes back.
They never reach the paths of life. 20So you will walk in the ways of good people.
You will stay on the paths of those who do right. 21For honest people will live in the land.
Those who are without blame will stay in it. 22But wicked people will be cut off from the land.
Unfaithful people will be pulled up by the roots.
