1A man may stay stubborn after being warned many times.
He will suddenly be broken, and nothing can fix him. 2When those who do right grow strong, the people are glad.
But when the wicked rule, the people groan. 3A man who loves wisdom makes his father glad.
But a friend of prostitutes wastes his wealth. 4A king makes the land steady by justice.
But a man who demands heavy taxes tears it down. 5A man who flatters his neighbor
is spreading a net for his feet. 6An evil man is caught by his own sin.
But one who does right sings and is glad. 7Those who do right care about the rights of the poor.
But the wicked don't care about such things. 8Mockers stir up a city.
But the wise turn anger away. 9If a wise man goes to court with a fool,
there will be yelling and laughing, and nothing will be settled. 10Murderers hate a man who is innocent.
But honest people care for his life. 11A fool lets all his anger out.
But a wise man holds it back. 12If a ruler listens to lies,
all his officials will be wicked. 13The poor man and the one who crushes others have this in common:
The LORD gives light to the eyes of both. 14A king may judge the poor fairly.
If he does, his throne will be made strong forever. 15The rod of correction gives wisdom.
But a child left on his own brings shame to his mother. 16When the wicked do well, sin grows.
But those who do right will see the wicked fall. 17Correct your son, and he will give you peace.
He will bring joy to your soul. 18Where there is no vision, the people run wild.
But blessed is the one who keeps the Law.a 19A servant cannot be corrected by words alone.
He may understand, but he will not obey. 20Do you see a man who speaks too fast?
There is more hope for a fool than for him. 21A servant who is spoiled from the time he is young
will bring sorrow in the end. 22An angry man stirs up fights.
A man with a hot temper does many wrong things. 23A man's pride will bring him down.
But a humble spirit will receive honor. 24A partner of a thief hates his own life.
He hears the oath to speak up, but he doesn't tell what he knows. 25Being afraid of people is a trap.
But whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe up high. 26Many people try to win the ruler's favor.
But a man gets justice from the LORD. 27People who do right hate those who are unfair.
The wicked hate those who live honestly.
