1The wicked run away when no one is chasing them.
But those who do right are as brave as a lion. 2When a land rebels, it has many rulers.
But a man with understanding and knowledge keeps order. 3A leader who is poor himself and crushes the poor
is like a pounding rain that leaves no food. 4Those who turn away from the law praise the wicked.
But those who keep the law fight against them. 5Evil men do not understand justice.
But those who seek the LORD understand it fully. 6It is better to be poor and honest
than to be rich and live a twisted life. 7A wise son keeps the law.
But a friend of people who eat too much brings shame on his father. 8Some people get rich by charging high interest on loans.
They are only saving it up for someone who is kind to the poor. 9If someone turns his ear away from hearing the law,
even his prayer is hateful. 10Whoever leads good people down an evil path
will fall into his own pit.
But the innocent will receive good things. 11A rich man thinks he is wise.
But a poor man with understanding sees right through him. 12When those who do right win, there is great glory.
But when the wicked rise up, people hide. 13Whoever hides his sins will not do well.
But whoever admits them and turns from them will find mercy. 14Blessed is the man who always fears God.
But whoever makes his heart hard falls into trouble. 15A wicked ruler over helpless people
is like a roaring lion or a charging bear. 16A leader with no good sense is also very cruel to his people.
But whoever hates money gained by cheating will live a long life. 17A man who carries the guilt of murder
will run away into the Pit.
Let no one help him. 18Whoever lives an honest life will be kept safe.
But whoever lives a twisted life will suddenly fall. 19The one who works his land will have plenty of food.
But whoever chases empty dreams will have plenty of being poor. 20A faithful man will have many blessings.
But someone in a hurry to get rich will not escape punishment. 21It is not good to take sides.
Yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread. 22A stingy man rushes after riches.
He doesn't know that being poor is waiting for him. 23Whoever corrects a man will be liked more in the end
than someone who flatters with his tongue. 24Someone may rob his father or mother and say, "It's not wrong."
He is a partner of the man who destroys. 25A greedy man stirs up fights.
But whoever trusts in the LORD will do well. 26Whoever trusts in himself is a fool.
But whoever lives wisely will be safe. 27Whoever gives to the poor will not be in need.
But whoever closes his eyes to them will get many curses. 28When the wicked take power, people hide.
But when the wicked die, those who do right grow strong.
