1Then the LORD spoke to Moses. He said, 2"Command the Israelites to bring you pure oil from crushed olives for the light. It will keep the lamps burning all the time. 3Aaron must take care of the lamps in the Tent of Meeting. They are outside the curtain in front of the Testimony. He must keep them burning before the LORD all the time, from evening until morning. This is a law that will last for all your future generations. 4He must always take care of the lamps on the lampstand of pure gold before the LORD. 5Also take fine flour and bake twelve loaves of bread. Use about 4 quarts of flour for each loaf.a 6Set them in two rows, with six in each row. Put them on the table of pure gold before the LORD. 7Put pure frankincense beside each row. It will be a memorial portion for the bread. It is a food offering to the LORD. 8Every Sabbath day the bread must be set out before the LORD. This is done for the Israelites as a covenant that lasts forever. 9The bread belongs to Aaron and his sons. They must eat it in a holy place. It is a most holy part of the food offerings to the LORD. It is his share forever." 10Now there was a man whose mother was an Israelite and whose father was an Egyptian. He went out among the Israelites. A fight started in the camp between him and an Israelite man. 11The son of the Israelite woman spoke against the Name with a curse. So people brought him to Moses. (His mother's name was Shelomith. She was the daughter of Dibri, from the tribe of Dan.)b 12They kept him under guard until the LORD made it clear what they should do. 13Then the LORD spoke to Moses. He said, 14"Take the man who spoke against me outside the camp. Have everyone who heard him put their hands on his head. Then have the whole community stone him. 15Tell the Israelites, 'If anyone curses his God, he must suffer the result of his sin. 16Anyone who speaks against the name of the LORD must be put to death. The whole community must stone him. It does not matter if he is a foreigner or born an Israelite. If he speaks against the Name, he must be put to death. 17If a man takes the life of another person, he must be put to death. 18Anyone who kills an animal must pay it back. It is a life for a life. 19If anyone hurts his neighbor, the same thing he did must be done to him. 20It is a broken bone for a broken bone, an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. The same injury he gave the other person must be given to him. 21Anyone who kills an animal must pay it back. But anyone who kills a person must be put to death. 22You must have the same law for the foreigner and for the one born an Israelite. For I am the LORD your God.'" 23Then Moses spoke to the Israelites. They took the man who spoke against God outside the camp and stoned him. The Israelites did just what the LORD had commanded Moses.
