1This was the land given by lot to the family of Joseph. It started at the Jordan near Jericho, at the springs of Jericho on the east. It went through the wilderness that goes up from Jericho into the hill country of Bethel. 2It went on from Bethel, which is Luz. It went to the border of the Archites at Ataroth. 3Then it went down to the west, to the border of the Japhletites. It went as far as the border of Lower Beth-horon and on to Gezer. It ended at the Sea. 4So Ephraim and Manasseh, the sons of Joseph, received their land. 5This was the land of Ephraim's family line, clan by clan. The border of their land went from Ataroth-addar in the east to Upper Beth-horon. 6Then it went on toward the Sea. From Michmethath on the north, it turned east toward Taanath-shiloh. It passed it and went on to Janoah on the east. 7From Janoah it went down to Ataroth and Naarah. Then it reached Jericho and came out at the Jordan. 8From Tappuah the border went west to the Brook of Kanah. It ended at the Sea. This was the land the clans of the tribe of Ephraim received. 9They also received all the cities and villages set apart for them inside the land of Manasseh. 10But they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer. So the Canaanites still live among the people of Ephraim today. But they are forced to work as slaves.
