1This was the land given by lot to the clans of the tribe of Judah. It reached to the border of Edom. It went to the Wilderness of Zin at the far south end. 2Their southern border started at the bay at the south end of the Salt Sea. 3It went south of the Ascent of Akrabbim and on to Zin. It went south of Kadesh-barnea. It ran past Hezron up to Addar. Then it turned toward Karka. 4It went on to Azmon and joined the Brook of Egypt. It ended at the Sea. This was their southern border. 5The eastern border was the Salt Sea, up to where the Jordan flows into it. The northern border started at the bay of the sea where the Jordan flows in. 6It went up to Beth-hoglah. It passed north of Beth-arabah. It went up to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben. 7Then the border went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor. It turned north to Gilgal. Gilgal faces the Ascent of Adummim, south of the ravine. It went on along the waters of En-shemesh. It came out at En-rogel. 8From there the border went up the Valley of Ben-hinnom. It ran along the south side of the Jebusite city. That city is Jerusalem. Then it went up to the top of the hill west of the Valley of Hinnom. This hill is at the north end of the Valley of Rephaim. 9From the top of the hill the border turned to the spring of the Waters of Nephtoah. It went on to the cities of Mount Ephron. Then it bent around toward Baalah, which is Kiriath-jearim. 10From Baalah the border turned west to Mount Seir. It ran along the northern slope of Mount Jearim, which is Chesalon. It went down to Beth-shemesh and crossed to Timnah. 11Then it went out to the northern slope of Ekron. It turned toward Shikkeron and went on to Mount Baalah. It went on to Jabneel and ended at the Sea. 12The western border was the coast of the Great Sea. These were the borders all around the clans of Judah's family line. 13The LORD had given Joshua a command. So Joshua gave Caleb son of Jephunneh a share of land among the people of Judah. He gave him Kiriath-arba, which is Hebron. (Arba was the father of Anak's family line.) 14Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak from there. They were the families of Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, who came from Anak. 15From there he marched against the people living in Debir. (Debir used to be called Kiriath-sepher.) 16Caleb said, "I will give my daughter Acsah to be the wife of the man who attacks Kiriath-sepher and takes it." 17Othniel took the city. He was the son of Kenaz, Caleb's brother. So Caleb gave him his daughter Acsah to be his wife. 18One day Acsah came to Othniel. She urged him to ask her father for a field. She got down off her donkey. Caleb asked her, "What do you want?" 19"Give me a blessing," she answered. "You have given me land in the Negev. Now give me springs of water too." So Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs. 20This is the land the clans of the tribe of Judah received. 21These were the cities farthest south in the tribe of Judah.
