1From inside the fish, Jonah prayed to the LORD his God. 2He said:
"When I was in trouble, I called to the LORD,
and he answered me.
From deep in the grave I called for help,
and you heard my voice.a 3You threw me into the deep waters,
into the middle of the seas.
The current swirled around me.
All your crashing waves rolled over me. 4Then I said, 'I have been sent away from your sight.
Yet I will look again toward your holy temple.' 5The waters closed over me to take my life.
The deep sea was all around me.
Seaweed was wrapped around my head. 6I sank down to the roots of the mountains.
The earth locked its gates behind me forever!
But you brought my life up from the pit,
LORD my God! 7As my life was slipping away,
I remembered the LORD.
My prayer rose up to you,
to your holy temple. 8People who hold on to worthless idols
turn away from God's faithful love. 9But I will sing thanks to you
and offer a sacrifice to you.
I will do what I promised.
Salvation comes from the LORD!" 10Then the LORD gave an order to the fish. And it threw up Jonah onto dry land.
