1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered: 2"How long until you stop these speeches?
Use some sense, and then we can talk. 3Why do you think of us as cattle?
Why do we seem stupid to you? 4You tear yourself apart in your anger.
Should the earth be left empty just for you?
Should the rocks be moved from their place? 5Yes, the lamp of the wicked man is put out.
The flame of his fire stops glowing. 6The light in his tent grows dark.
The lamp beside him goes out. 7His strong steps grow short.
His own plans trip him up. 8His own feet lead him into a net.
He wanders into its web of ropes. 9A trap catches him by the heel.
A snare holds him tight. 10A rope loop is hidden in the ground for him.
A trap lies in his path. 11Terrors frighten him on every side.
They chase him at every step. 12His strength is used up.
Disaster is ready at his side. 13It eats away patches of his skin.
Death's firstborn eats up his arms and legs. 14He is torn from the safety of his tent.
He is marched off to the king of terrors. 15Fire lives in his tent.
Burning sulfur rains down on his home. 16His roots below him dry up.
His branches above him wither. 17The memory of him dies from the earth.
No one in the land knows his name. 18He is driven from light into darkness.
He is chased out of the world where people live. 19He has no children or grandchildren among his people.
No one is left alive where he once lived. 20People in the west are shocked at what happens to him.
People in the east shake with horror. 21Surely this is what happens to the home of the wicked.
This is the place of the one who doesn't know God."
