1"I hate my own life.
I will let my complaint pour out.
I will speak from the bitterness of my soul.
2I will say to God: Do not condemn me!
Tell me why you bring charges against me.
3Does it make you happy to crush me?
Do you turn away from what your own hands made?
Do you smile on the plans of the wicked?
4Do you have human eyes?
Do you see the way people see?
5Are your days like the days of a human?
Are your years like a man's years?
6Is that why you look for my wrongs?
Is that why you search for my sin?
7You do this even though you know I am not guilty.
And no one can save me from your hand.
8Your hands shaped me and made me.
Will you now turn around and destroy me?
9Please remember that you shaped me like clay.
Will you now turn me back into dust?
10Didn't you pour me out like milk?
Didn't you make me thick like cheese?
11You covered me with skin and flesh.
You knit me together with bones and muscles.
12You gave me life and faithful love.
Your care has kept my spirit alive.
13But you hid these things in your heart.
And I know that this was in your mind:
14If I sinned, you would be watching me.
You would not let me go free from my wrong.
15If I am guilty, how terrible for me!
Even if I am righteous, I can't lift up my head.
I am full of shame, and I see my misery.
16If I held my head up high, you would hunt me like a lion.
You would show your power against me again.
17You bring new witnesses against me.
You make your anger toward me grow.
Troubles attack me again and again, like waves.
18Then why did you bring me out of the womb?
I wish I had died before any eye saw me!
19I wish I had never lived.
I wish I had been carried from the womb straight to the grave.
20Aren't my days few?
Turn away from me so I can have a little comfort.
21Let me have it before I go to a land of darkness and gloom.
I will never come back from there.
22It is a land of deepest darkness.
It is a place of deep shadow and confusion.
There even the light is like darkness."
