IsaiahChapter 31

1How terrible it will be for those who go down to Egypt for help!
They depend on horses.
They trust in their many chariots
and in their large number of horsemen.
But they do not look to the Holy One of Israel.
They do not ask the LORD for help.
2Yet he is wise too, and he brings disaster.
He does not take back his words.
He will rise up against the house of the wicked.
He will rise up against those who help evil people.
3But the Egyptians are men, not God.
Their horses are flesh, not spirit.
When the LORD reaches out his hand,
the helper will trip,
and the one he helps will fall.
They will both perish together.
4This is what the LORD has said to me:
"A lion or a young lion may roar over its prey.
A group of shepherds may be called out against it.
But it is not scared by their shouting.
It is not stopped by their noise.
In the same way, the LORD of Hosts will come down
to fight on Mount Zion and its hills.
5Like birds flying overhead,
the LORD of Hosts will protect Jerusalem.
He will shield it and rescue it.
He will pass over it and keep it safe."
6Children of Israel, come back to the One
you have rebelled against so openly.
7For on that day, every one of you will throw away
your idols of silver and gold.
Your own hands made them, and that was sin.
8"Then Assyria will fall,
but not by the sword of a man.
A sword will destroy them,
but not one made by humans.
They will run from the sword.
Their young men will be made into slaves.
9Their rock will be gone because of fear.
Their princes will panic when they see the battle flag,"
says the LORD.
His fire is in Zion.
His furnace is in Jerusalem.
