1Long ago, God spoke to our ancestors many times and in many different ways. He spoke through the prophets. 2But in these last days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God chose his Son to receive all things. And God made the universe through him. 3The Son is the shining light of God's glory. He shows exactly what God is like. He holds all things together by his powerful word. He made people clean from their sins. After that, he sat down at the right hand of God, the Majesty in heaven. 4So the Son became far greater than the angels, just as the name he received is far greater than their name. 5God never said this to any angel: "You are my Son. Today I have become your Father." He never said this to an angel either: "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son." 6And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all of God's angels worship him." 7About the angels, God says, "He makes his angels winds. He makes his servants flames of fire." 8But about the Son, God says, "Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever. You rule your kingdom with justice. 9You have loved what is right and hated what is evil. So God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy. He has set you above your companions." 10God also says, "Lord, in the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth. The heavens are the work of your hands. 11They will perish, but you will stay. They will all wear out like old clothes. 12You will roll them up like a robe. They will be changed like clothes. But you stay the same. Your years will never end." 13God never said this to any angel: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." 14Aren't the angels spirits who serve? They are sent to help those who will inherit salvation.
