1Then God blessed Noah and his sons. He said to them, "Have many children and grow in number. Fill the earth. 2Every living creature on the earth will be afraid of you and terrified of you. Every bird in the sky, every creature that crawls on the ground, and all the fish in the sea will fear you. They are put under your power. 3Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. 4But you must not eat meat that still has its lifeblood in it. 5I will surely demand payment for your lifeblood. If any animal or person kills someone, I will demand payment from them. I will hold anyone who takes the life of another person responsible. 6Whoever sheds a person's blood,
his blood will be shed by people.
That is because God made mankind
in his own image. 7But as for you, have many children and grow in number. Spread out over the earth and fill it." 8Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him. He said, 9"Now I am making my covenant with you and with your children after you. 10I am also making it with every living creature that was with you. That means the birds, the farm animals, and every wild animal. It means every living thing that came out of the ark. 11I am making my covenant with you. Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood. Never again will a flood destroy the earth." 12And God said, "Here is the sign of the covenant I am making. It is between me and you and every living creature with you. It is a covenant for all the generations to come. 13I have put my rainbow in the clouds. It will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15I will remember my covenant between me and you and every kind of living creature. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it. I will remember the covenant that lasts forever. It is between God and every kind of living creature on the earth." 17So God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant I have made. It is between me and every creature on the earth." 18Noah's sons who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Ham was the father of Canaan. 19These three were Noah's sons. The people who spread over the whole earth came from them. 20Noah was a farmer. He planted a vineyard. 21But he drank some of its wine and got drunk. He lay uncovered inside his tent. 22Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father naked. He told his two brothers, who were outside. 23Then Shem and Japheth took a robe and laid it across their shoulders. They walked in backward and covered their naked father. They kept their faces turned away so they would not see their father naked. 24Noah woke up from his drunken sleep. He found out what his youngest son had done to him. 25He said,
"May Canaan be cursed!
He will be the lowest of servants to his brothers." 26He also said,
"Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem!
May Canaan be Shem's servant. 27May God make Japheth's land larger.
May Japheth live in the tents of Shem.
And may Canaan be his servant." 28After the flood, Noah lived 350 years. 29Noah lived 950 years in all. Then he died.
