1The word of the LORD came to me. He said, 2"Son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says to the land of Israel: 'The end! The end has come on the four corners of the land. 3Now the end is on you. I will let loose my anger against you. I will judge you by the way you have lived. I will pay you back for all your disgusting acts. 4I will not look on you with pity. I will not spare you. I will punish you for your ways and for the disgusting acts among you. Then you will know that I am the LORD.' 5This is what the Lord GOD says: 'Disaster! A disaster like no other is coming! Look, it is coming! 6The end has come! The end has come! It has woken up against you. Look, it has come! 7Doom has come to you who live in the land. The time has come. The day is near. There is panic on the mountains, not shouts of joy. 8Very soon I will pour out my fury on you. I will let my anger loose against you. I will judge you by the way you have lived. I will pay you back for all your disgusting acts. 9I will not look on you with pity. I will not spare you. I will punish you for your ways and for the disgusting acts among you. Then you will know that I, the LORD, am the one who strikes you. 10Look, the day is here! It has come! Doom has gone out. The rod has budded. Pride has bloomed. 11Their violence has grown into a rod to punish their wickedness. None of them will be left. None of their crowds will be left. None of their wealth, and nothing of value, will be left. 12The time has come. The day has arrived. Let the buyer not be glad, and let the seller not be sad. For anger is on the whole crowd of them. 13The seller will surely not get back what he sold, even if both of them are still alive. For the vision about the whole crowd will not be taken back. Because of their sin, not one of them will save his life. 14They have blown the trumpet and made everything ready. But no one goes into battle. For my anger is on the whole crowd of them. 15The sword is outside. Disease and famine are inside. Those out in the country will die by the sword. Those in the city will be eaten up by famine and disease. 16The survivors will escape and live in the mountains. They will moan like doves of the valleys. Each one will moan for his own sin. 17Every hand will go limp. Every knee will become as weak as water. 18They will put on sackcloth. Terror will cover them. Shame will be on all their faces. All their heads will be shaved. 19They will throw their silver into the streets. Their gold will seem unclean to them. Their silver and gold will not be able to save them on the day of the LORD's anger. Their riches cannot satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs. For their wealth was the stumbling block that led them into sin. 20They turned his beautiful jewelry into something to be proud of. They used it to make their evil images and disgusting idols. So I will make these things unclean to them. 21I will hand these things over to foreigners as plunder. I will give them to the wicked people of the earth as loot. They will make them unclean. 22I will turn my face away from them. They will make my treasured place unclean. Violent men will go into it and make it unclean. 23Make the chains! For the land is full of murder. The city is full of violence. 24So I will bring the most wicked of nations to take over their houses. I will put an end to the pride of the mighty. Their holy places will be made unclean. 25Terror is coming! They will look for peace, but there will be none. 26Disaster after disaster will come. One rumor after another will spread. They will try to get a vision from a prophet. But the priests will have no teaching left. The elders will have no advice to give. 27The king will mourn. The prince will be wrapped in hopelessness. The hands of the people of the land will shake. I will deal with them as they have acted. I will judge them by their own standards. Then they will know that I am the LORD.'"
