1The word of the LORD came to me. He said, 2"Son of man, turn your face against the mountains of Israel. Prophesy against them. 3Say to them: 'Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD! This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and hills, and to the ravines and valleys: I am about to bring a sword against you. I will destroy your high places. 4Your altars will be torn down. Your incense altars will be smashed. I will throw down your dead in front of your idols. 5I will lay the dead bodies of the Israelites in front of their idols. I will scatter your bones around your altars. 6Wherever you live, the cities will be ruined. The high places will be torn down. Your altars will be ruined and made unclean. Your idols will be smashed and wiped out. Your incense altars will be cut down. All the things you made will be wiped away. 7People will fall dead among you. Then you will know that I am the LORD. 8But I will leave some of you alive. Some of you will escape the sword when you are scattered among the nations and through the lands. 9Then your survivors will remember me in the nations where they were taken as captives. They will remember how hurt I was by their unfaithful hearts that turned away from me. They will remember how I was hurt by their eyes that lusted after idols. So they will hate themselves for the evil they have done and for all their disgusting acts. 10And they will know that I am the LORD. I did not warn them for nothing that I would bring this disaster on them. 11This is what the Lord GOD says: Clap your hands and stamp your feet! Cry out, "How terrible!" Cry out because of all the wicked, disgusting acts of the house of Israel. They will fall by sword, famine, and disease. 12Those who are far away will die of disease. Those who are near will fall by the sword. And those who are left will die of hunger. That is how I will pour out my fury on them. 13Then you will know that I am the LORD. Their dead will lie among their idols around their altars. They will lie on every high hill and on all the mountaintops. They will lie under every green tree and every leafy oak. Those are the places where they burned sweet-smelling incense to all their idols. 14I will stretch out my hand against them. Wherever they live, I will make the land an empty waste, from the wilderness to Diblah. Then they will know that I am the LORD.'"
