1Again the LORD gave me this message. He said, 2"Son of man, prophesy. Say that this is what the Lord GOD says:
'Wail and say,
"How terrible that day will be!" 3For the day is near.
The Day of the LORD is near.
It will be a day of clouds.
It will be a time of doom for the nations. 4A sword will come against Egypt.
There will be great pain in Cush
when people are killed in Egypt.
Its riches will be carried off.
Its foundations will be torn down. 5Cush, Put, and Lud,
and all the mixed peoples,
along with Libya and the people of the covenant land,
will be killed by the sword along with Egypt. 6For this is what the LORD says:
Those who help Egypt will fall.
Her proud strength will crumble.
From Migdol to Syene
they will be killed by the sword in her,
declares the Lord GOD. 7They will be the emptiest of empty lands.
Their cities will lie among ruined cities. 8Then they will know that I am the LORD.
This will happen when I set fire to Egypt
and all her helpers are crushed. 9On that day, messengers will go out from me in ships. They will frighten Cush, which feels so safe. Great pain will come on them on the day of Egypt's doom. For it is surely coming. 10This is what the Lord GOD says:
I will put an end to the crowds of Egypt
by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. 11He and his army are the most cruel of the nations.
They will be brought in to destroy the land.
They will pull out their swords against Egypt.
They will fill the land with dead bodies. 12I will make the streams dry up.
I will sell the land to wicked people.
By the hands of foreigners
I will make the land and everything in it empty.
I, the LORD, have spoken. 13This is what the Lord GOD says:
I will destroy the idols.
I will put an end to the carved images in Memphis.
There will no longer be a prince in Egypt.
I will fill that land with fear. 14I will ruin Pathros.
I will set fire to Zoan.
I will punish Thebes. 15I will pour out my fury on Pelusium,
the fortress of Egypt.
I will wipe out the crowds of Thebes. 16I will set fire to Egypt.
Pelusium will twist in pain.
Thebes will be broken open.
Memphis will have trouble every day. 17The young men of On and Pi-beseth
will be killed by the sword.
The people of those cities will be taken away as captives. 18The day will turn dark in Tahpanhes
when I break the yoke of Egypt.
Then her proud strength will end.
A cloud will cover her.
Her daughters will be taken away as captives. 19So I will punish Egypt.
Then they will know that I am the LORD.'" 20It was the eleventh year, on the seventh day of the first month. The LORD gave me this message. He said, 21"Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Look, no one has wrapped it up so it can heal. No one has put it in a splint to make it strong enough to hold a sword. 22So this is what the Lord GOD says: Listen, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will break his arms, both the strong one and the one already broken. I will make the sword fall from his hand. 23I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations. I will spread them out through many lands. 24I will make the arms of Babylon's king strong. I will put my sword in his hand. But I will break the arms of Pharaoh. He will groan in front of the king of Babylon like a man who is dying from his wounds. 25I will make the arms of Babylon's king strong. But Pharaoh's arms will hang weak. I will put my sword in the hand of Babylon's king. He will swing it against the land of Egypt. Then they will know that I am the LORD. 26I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations. I will spread them out through many lands. Then they will know that I am the LORD."
