1You have been raised with Christ. So set your heart on the things above. That is where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2Think about the things above, not the things on earth. 3For you died. Now your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4Christ is your life. When he appears, you will also appear with him in glory. 5So put to death the earthly things in you. Get rid of sexual sin, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed. Greed is the same as worshiping idols. 6Because of these things, God's anger is coming on those who disobey him. 7You used to live this way too, when you lived among them. 8But now you must get rid of all these things too: anger, rage, hate, saying cruel things about others, and dirty talk from your mouth. 9Don't lie to each other. You have taken off your old self and the evil things it did. 10You have put on the new self. This new self keeps being made new in knowledge. It is becoming like the One who made it. 11Here there is no Greek or Jew. There is no circumcised or uncircumcised. There is no outsider or Scythian, slave or free. But Christ is all, and he is in all. 12God has chosen you. You are holy, and he loves you. So put on kindness and tender hearts. Put on humility, gentleness, and patience like clothes. 13Put up with each other. If you have a complaint against someone, forgive them. Forgive the way the Lord forgave you. 14And over all these good things, put on love. Love ties everything together in perfect unity. 15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. As parts of one body, you were called to this peace. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ live in you richly. Teach and warn each other with all wisdom. Sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing to God with thankful hearts. 17Whatever you do, whether in words or actions, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus. Give thanks to God the Father through him. 18Wives, submit to your husbands. This is fitting in the Lord. 19Husbands, love your wives. Do not be harsh with them. 20Children, obey your parents in everything. This pleases the Lord. 21Fathers, do not make your children angry. If you do, they will lose heart. 22Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything. Don't do it only when they are watching, just to please them. Obey them with an honest heart, because you fear the Lord. 23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart. Work as if you were working for the Lord, not for people. 24Do this because you know that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25Anyone who does wrong will be paid back for the wrong he has done. God does not have favorites.
