1I give you this command in front of God and Christ Jesus. Christ will judge the living and the dead. And remember that he is coming back and will rule as King. So here is my command: 2Preach the word. Be ready when the time is good and when it is not. Correct people, warn them, and encourage them. Always be patient as you teach. 3The time will come when people will not put up with true teaching. Instead, they will want to hear what tickles their ears. So they will gather many teachers who say what they want to hear. 4They will stop listening to the truth. They will turn to made-up stories. 5But you must keep a clear head in everything. Put up with hard times. Do the work of telling the good news. Do everything God has given you to do. 6My life is already being poured out like a drink offering. The time has come for me to leave this life. 7I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. 8Now the crown of being right with God is waiting for me. The Lord is the righteous Judge. He will give it to me on that day. And he will give it not only to me. He will give it to all who long for him to appear. 9Do your best to come to me soon. 10This is because Demas loved this world, and he has left me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus has gone to Dalmatia. 11Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you. He helps me in my work. 12I sent Tychicus to Ephesus. 13When you come, bring the coat I left with Carpus at Troas. Also bring my scrolls, and most of all the parchments. 14Alexander the metal worker did me a lot of harm. The Lord will pay him back for what he has done. 15You should watch out for him too. He fought hard against our message. 16The first time I had to defend myself in court, no one stood with me. Everyone left me. I pray that God will not hold it against them. 17But the Lord stood by me and made me strong. He did this so that through me the message would be fully preached and all the Gentiles would hear it. So I was rescued from the lion's mouth. 18The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack. He will bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. Glory to him forever and ever. Amen. 19Say hello to Prisca and Aquila. Say hello to the family of Onesiphorus too. 20Erastus stayed in Corinth. And I left Trophimus sick in Miletus. 21Do your best to get here before winter. Eubulus says hello to you. So do Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers and sisters. 22May the Lord be with your spirit. May grace be with you all.
