1But understand this: In the last days there will be terrible times. 2People will love only themselves and money. They will brag and be proud. They will be cruel with words and will not obey their parents. They will not be thankful. They will not be holy. 3They will not love others or forgive them. They will tell lies about others. They will have no self-control. They will be brutal, and they will not love what is good. 4They will turn on their friends. They will act without thinking and be full of pride. They will love pleasure instead of loving God. 5They will look like they honor God, but they will deny God's power. Stay away from people like that! 6Some of them sneak into homes. They take control of weak women. These women are weighed down with sins. They are led away by all kinds of desires. 7These women are always learning. But they are never able to come to know the truth. 8Jannes and Jambres fought against Moses. In the same way, these men fight against the truth. Their minds are rotten, and they have failed the test of faith. 9But they won't get very far. Their foolishness will be clear to everyone, just like Jannes and Jambres. 10But you know all about my teaching, how I live, and what I aim for. You know my faith, my patience, my love, and how I keep going. 11You know how I have been attacked and how I have suffered. You know what happened to me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. I put up with terrible attacks! But the Lord rescued me from all of them. 12In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be attacked for it. 13Meanwhile, evil people and fakes will go from bad to worse. They will fool others, and they will be fooled. 14But as for you, keep on in the things you have learned and believed. You know who taught you. 15Since you were a baby, you have known the Holy Scriptures. They can make you wise so that you are saved through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is breathed out by God. It is useful for teaching. It shows us where we are wrong and helps us fix it. It trains us to do what is right. 17In this way, the man of God will be complete. He will have everything he needs for every good work.
