1This letter is from Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy. It is to the church of the Thessalonians, who belong to God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. 3Brothers and sisters, we should always thank God for all of you. It is the right thing to do, because your faith is growing more and more. And your love for each other keeps getting bigger. 4That is why we brag about you to God's churches. We tell them how you keep going and keep your faith. You do this even while you suffer so much attack and trouble. 5All this clearly shows that God judges in a way that is right. So he will count you worthy of the kingdom of God. You are suffering for that kingdom. 6After all, it is only right for God to pay back trouble to those who give you trouble. 7And it is right for him to give rest to you who suffer, and to us too. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is shown from heaven with his mighty angels. 8He will come in blazing fire. He will punish those who do not know God. He will punish those who do not obey the good news of our Lord Jesus. 9They will pay the price of being destroyed forever. They will be shut out from the Lord's presence and from the glory of his power. 10This will happen on the day he comes to be honored among his people. Everyone who has believed will look at him with wonder. That includes you, because you believed what we told you. 11That is why we always pray for you. We pray that our God will count you worthy of his calling. We pray that by his power he will make every good wish of yours come true. And we pray he will complete every work you do by faith. 12Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored in you, and you will be honored in him. This comes by the grace of our God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.
