1This letter is from Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy. We are writing to the church of the Thessalonians. You belong to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and peace to you. 2We always thank God for all of you. We remember you when we pray. 3We keep thinking about you in front of our God and Father. We remember the work your faith does. We remember how hard you work because of love. And we remember how your hope in our Lord Jesus Christ keeps you going. 4Brothers and sisters, God loves you. We know that he has chosen you. 5We know this because our good news came to you with more than words. It came with power and with the Holy Spirit. It came with a deep, sure belief. And you know how we lived among you for your good. 6You suffered a lot. But you welcomed the message with joy from the Holy Spirit. So you became like us and like the Lord. 7Because of this, you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8The Lord's message rang out from you to Macedonia and Achaia. But that's not all. People everywhere have heard about your faith in God. So we don't need to say anything more about it. 9The people themselves tell how you welcomed us. They tell how you turned away from idols to God. Now you serve the living and true God. 10And you wait for his Son to come from heaven. God raised him from the dead. He is Jesus, who saves us from God's anger that is coming.
