1I am a fellow elder. I saw Christ suffer, and I will share in the glory that will be shown. So I urge the elders among you. 2Be shepherds of God's flock that is in your care. Watch over them because you want to, not because you have to. That is what God wants. Don't do it to get money. Do it because you are eager to serve. 3Don't be bossy over the people in your care. Instead, be examples to the flock. 4And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory. It will never fade away. 5Young men, in the same way, obey your elders. And all of you, put on humility toward one another like clothing. This is because Scripture says, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." 6So humble yourselves under God's powerful hand. Then he will lift you up at the right time. 7Give all your worries to him, because he cares for you. 8Think clearly and stay alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion. He is looking for someone to eat up. 9Stand up against him, and stay strong in your faith. You know that your brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kinds of suffering. 10You will suffer for a little while. After that, the God of all grace will himself restore you. He called you to share his glory forever in Christ. He will make you secure. He will make you strong and set you on a firm base. 11Power belongs to him forever and ever. Amen. 12I have written this short letter to you with the help of Silvanus. I think of him as a faithful brother. I wrote to encourage you. I also wrote to tell you that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it. 13The church in Babylon sends you greetings. God chose them together with you. My son Mark also sends greetings. 14Greet each other with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
