1These were the groups of the gatekeepers. From the Korahites came Meshelemiah son of Kore. He was one of the sons of Asaph. 2Meshelemiah had sons. Zechariah was the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, and Jathniel the fourth. 3Elam was the fifth, Jehohanan the sixth, and Eliehoenai the seventh. 4Obed-edom also had sons. Shemaiah was the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sachar the fourth, and Nethanel the fifth. 5Ammiel was the sixth, Issachar the seventh, and Peullethai the eighth. For God had blessed Obed-edom. 6His son Shemaiah also had sons. They were leaders in their families, because they were strong and able men. 7Shemaiah's sons were Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad. Their relatives Elihu and Semachiah were also able men. 8All these were descendants of Obed-edom. They and their sons and relatives were able men, strong enough to do the work. There were 62 in all from Obed-edom. 9Meshelemiah also had sons and relatives who were able men. There were 18 in all. 10Hosah the Merarite also had sons. Shimri was the first. He was not the firstborn, but his father made him the first. 11Hilkiah was the second, Tebaliah the third, and Zechariah the fourth. Hosah's sons and relatives were 13 in all. 12These were the groups of the gatekeepers, led by their chief men. They had duties serving in the house of the LORD, just like their relatives. 13They cast lots for each gate by their families. Young and old were treated the same. 14The lot for the East Gate fell to Shelemiah. Then they cast lots for his son Zechariah, a wise adviser. The lot for the North Gate fell to him. 15The lot for the South Gate fell to Obed-edom. The lot for the storehouses fell to his sons. 16The lots for the West Gate and the Shallecheth Gate on the upper road fell to Shuppim and Hosah. Guards stood at every watch. 17Each day there were six Levites on the east side and four on the north. There were four on the south and two pairs at the storehouse. 18At the courtyard on the west, there were four at the road and two at the courtyard. 19These were the groups of the gatekeepers. They were descendants of Korah and Merari. 20Their fellow Levites were in charge of the treasuries of the house of God. They were also in charge of the treasuries for the gifts set apart for God. 21Some came from the descendants of Ladan. They were Gershonites through Ladan. They were heads of the families of Ladan the Gershonite. Among them was Jehieli. 22There were also the sons of Jehieli, Zetham and his brother Joel. They were in charge of the treasuries of the house of the LORD. 23Some came from the Amramites, the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites. 24Shebuel was the officer in charge of the treasuries. He was a descendant of Gershom son of Moses. 25His relatives through Eliezer were Eliezer's son Rehabiah, his son Jeshaiah, his son Joram, his son Zichri, and his son Shelomith. 26This Shelomith and his relatives were in charge of all the treasuries of gifts set apart for God. King David had given these gifts. So had the family heads who were commanders of thousands and of hundreds. So had the army commanders. 27They had set apart some of the goods they took in battle. These were for repairing the house of the LORD. 28Samuel the seer had set apart gifts. So had Saul son of Kish, Abner son of Ner, and Joab son of Zeruiah. All these gifts, and every other gift set apart for God, were in the care of Shelomith and his relatives. 29From the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons had duties outside the temple. They were officers and judges over Israel. 30From the Hebronites came Hashabiah and his relatives. There were 1,700 able men. They were in charge of Israel west of the Jordan River. They handled all the work of the LORD and the service of the king. 31Jerijah was the chief of the Hebronites, as listed in his family records. In the fortieth year of David's rule, the records were searched. Strong, able men were found among the Hebronites at Jazer in Gilead. 32Jerijah had 2,700 relatives who were able men and family heads. King David put them in charge of the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. They handled every matter that had to do with God and with the king.
