1David and the army commanders also set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun. They were to prophesy while playing lyres, harps, and cymbals. Here is the list of the men who did this work. 2From the sons of Asaph came Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah. These sons of Asaph worked under Asaph. And Asaph prophesied under the king's direction. 3From the sons of Jeduthun came Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah. There were six in all. They worked under their father Jeduthun. He prophesied with the harp as he thanked and praised the LORD. 4From the sons of Heman came Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth. 5All these were sons of Heman, the king's seer. God gave them to him through his promises to honor Heman. For God had given Heman 14 sons and 3 daughters. 6All these men worked under their fathers. They made the music in the house of the LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres. This was for the service of the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman worked under the king. 7They and their relatives were all trained and skilled in songs for the LORD. There were 288 of them. 8They cast lots for their duties.
