1Most beautiful of women,
where has your beloved gone?
Which way did he turn?
We will look for him with you. 2My beloved has gone down to his garden,
to the beds of spices.
He went to feed his flock in the gardens
and to gather lilies. 3I belong to my beloved,
and he belongs to me.
He feeds his flock among the lilies. 4My darling, you are as beautiful as Tirzah.
You are as lovely as Jerusalem.
You are as grand as an army with banners. 5Turn your eyes away from me,
for they are too much for me.
Your hair is like a flock of goats
running down from Gilead. 6Your teeth are like a flock of sheep
coming up from the washing.
Each one has its twin.
Not one of them is missing. 7Your forehead behind your veil
is like a slice of pomegranate. 8There are sixty queens
and eighty concubines,
and more young women than anyone can count, 9but my dove, my perfect one, is the only one.
She is her mother's favorite,
the one her mother gave birth to.
The young women see her and call her blessed.
The queens and concubines praise her. 10Who is this who shines like the dawn?
She is as fair as the moon
and as bright as the sun.
She is as grand as the stars marching across the sky. 11I went down to the grove of walnut trees
to see the new growth in the valley.
I went to see if the vines had buds
or if the pomegranates were in bloom. 12Before I knew it,
my desire put me among the royal chariots of my people.a 13Come back, come back, Shulammite!
Come back, come back,
so we may look at you!
Why do you look at the Shulammite
as if she were dancing the dance of Mahanaim?
