1At night on my bed
I looked for the one I love.
I looked for him, but I did not find him.
2I will get up now and go around the city.
I will go through the streets and the squares.
I will look for the one I love.
So I looked for him, but I did not find him.
3The watchmen found me
as they walked around the city.
I asked, "Have you seen the one I love?"
4I had just passed them
when I found the one I love.
I held on to him and would not let him go.
I held him until I brought him to my mother's house,
to the room of the one who gave birth to me.
5Daughters of Jerusalem, make me a promise.
Promise by the gazelles and the deer of the field.
Do not stir up or wake up love
until the time is right.
6Who is this coming up from the wilderness
like a pillar of smoke?
It smells of myrrh and frankincense,
and of all the spices the traders sell.
7Look! It is Solomon's carriage.
Sixty soldiers walk with it,
the strongest men of Israel.
8All of them are good with the sword.
They have fought in many wars.
Each one wears his sword at his side.
They are ready for the dangers of the night.
9King Solomon made his carriage
out of wood from Lebanon.
10He made its posts of silver
and its base of gold.
Its seat is covered with purple cloth.
The daughters of Jerusalem
lovingly decorated the inside.
11Come out, daughters of Zion.
Look at King Solomon!
He is wearing the crown his mother put on him
on his wedding day.
That was the day his heart was full of joy.
