1So what should we say? Should we keep on sinning so that grace will grow? 2No way! We have died to sin. How can we keep on living in it? 3Don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4So when we were baptized, we were buried with him into death. This was so that we too can live a new life, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father. 5If we have been joined with him like this in his death, we will surely also be joined with him in rising from the dead. 6We know that our old self was nailed to the cross with him. This was so the body ruled by sin would lose its power. Then we would no longer be slaves to sin. 7Anyone who has died has been set free from sin. 8Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9We know that Christ was raised from the dead. He can't die again. Death no longer has any power over him. 10When he died, he died to sin once for all time. But now the life he lives, he lives for God. 11In the same way, you must think of yourselves as dead to sin. But you are alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12So don't let sin rule your body, which will die someday. Don't obey its evil desires. 13Don't give any part of your body to sin to be used as a tool for evil. Instead, give yourselves to God. You have been brought from death to life. So give every part of your body to him. Let them be tools for doing what is right. 14Sin will not be your master, because you are not under law. You are under grace. 15So what? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? No way! 16Don't you know this? When you give yourselves to obey someone like slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey. You can be slaves to sin, which leads to death. Or you can be slaves to obeying God, which leads to doing what is right. 17But thank God! You used to be slaves to sin. But you obeyed with all your heart the pattern of teaching that you were handed over to. 18You have been set free from sin. And now you have become slaves to what is right. 19I'm using an everyday example because your human nature is weak. You used to give the parts of your body as slaves to impure things. You gave them to more and more evil. In the same way, now give them as slaves to what is right. This leads to a holy life. 20When you were slaves to sin, you didn't have to do what is right. 21What good did you get back then from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things end in death. 22But now you have been set free from sin. You have become slaves to God. The good you get from this leads to a holy life. And in the end you get eternal life. 23For the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
